July 20, 1933 – March 26, 2024
James Milford Taylor, went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House at the age of 90.
He was born on July 20, 1933, in Walhalla, SC. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Frady Taylor, his infant daughter, Donna Marie Taylor, his parents, James Robert and Exie Calhoun Taylor, his brother, Robert Ray Taylor, and his great grandson, Ethan Michael Bolton.
He is survived by his brother, Jack Taylor (Betty Jo), son, Rev. Rick Taylor (Candice), daughter, Rhonda Hanks (Greg). He was a loving "Papa" to four grandchildren, Tara Bolton (Michael), James "Jay" Taylor (Amber), Scott Hanks (Sarah), Andrea Hicks (Michael). He was also loving Papa Taylor and "Little" Papa to 11 great grandchildren, Eli and Isaac Bolton, Nora, Evelyn, and Micah Taylor, Evie, Weston, and Corban Hanks, Jack, Brady, and Baker Hicks.
James was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglass as a supervisor. After retirement from Owens Corning, he served as a bailiff at the Anderson County Courthouse and also bought, sold, and traded cars. He served in the Army National Guard from 1950-1959.
His greatest love and joy was in his Lord Jesus Christ, his family, and his church. He spent countless hours taking his kids and their friends camping, water skiing, and fishing. He had a life-long love of the mountains, especially in the Oconee County area where he and his brothers grew up. He was always up for a trip to the mountains with the guys in the family.
He was devoted to and extremely loved by his church family at Varennes Heights Baptist Church. He served for many years as a deacon, Sunday School director, teacher, and RA leader. He was instrumental in the building of the new sanctuary.
James was adored and admired and was an example of what a godly Christian man should be. His favorite phrase was "God is good all the time; all the time God is good." He will be tremendously missed by many.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Taylor and Dr. Doug Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Old Silver Brook Cemetery.
