James Mitchell Anderson, SC James Ephraim Mitchell, 'Papa Jim' age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Eros, LA, on February 20, 1923, he was the son of the late Marshall Mitchell and the late Minnie Gray Mitchell. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later the Army. He spent 28 years in the military, earning the rank of Master Sargent. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Louisianna and opened Ms. Lowes Cake Shop. They lived there several years until moving to Anderson, SC. His passion was gardening, growing some of the biggest tomatoes and canning them. He also loved to compost and taught others of this knowledge that he held. James was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge, the VFW, and Sierra Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, John Richey (Joanne), Allen Richey (Cindy), David Richey (Susie), Peggy Davis (Donnie), all of Anderson, SC, and Bobby Richey (Betty), of Tacoma, WA; a sister, Myrtle Richardson, of LA; 25 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Agnes Randall Mitchell; a daughter, Frances King; a son, Jack Richey; and his aunt and uncle who raised him, Nannie and George Sullivan. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Barry Davis and Reverend Rex Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family is at the home of his special granddaughter and caretaker, Kay Chapman, 627 Choctaw Street, Anderson, SC. The family would like to thank the staff at Richard M. Campbell for their service and care shown to Mr. Mitchell during his time of residency.
