James Michael Philyaw, age 70, of Sandy Springs, SC, dedicated husband to Carole Westmoreland Philyaw, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1951, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Clyde and Blanche Philyaw.
James proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. After earning his Associates degree in engineering, he worked and later retired as a research and development designer and had several patents. He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his loving wife, Carole, he is survived by his daughters, Janet Marie Philyaw of Anderson, SC, and Christina Michelle Guyton (Lundy) Winchester, VA; brother-in-law, Lamar Westmoreland (Ann) of Lavonia, GA; sister-in-law, Leeann Balkcom (John) of Land O' Lakes, FL; and five grandchildren, Chloe Anna Philyaw, Emma Grace Philyaw, Ian Harward, Christian Harward, and Myles Gibson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Pete Philyaw, Dot Nixon, and Shirley Watt.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Darwin Wright Park, Anderson, SC. The family requests the honor of your presence to share your memories of James.
