James Kenneth "Ken" Porter, age 72, of Belton, SC, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022. Ken was born October 7, 1950, to William and Inez Ayers Porter of Anderson, SC. He was the oldest of two children being preceded in death by his sister, Susan Porter Smith. He graduated from McDuffie High School in 1968 and Tri County Technical College in 1977. Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973 as a Machinist Mate on the U.S.S. O'Hare stationed in Norfolk, VA. After being honorably discharged he furthered his career at Cryovac in Simpsonville, SC. He also served 24 years in the 1/151 SIG BN, A Co. with the South Carolina Army National Guard in Laurens, SC, and retired again as a Staff Sergeant. Apart from his career and service in the armed forces, he enjoyed time with his family and retelling of the same stories each time they were together. He was active in his community of Williamston, SC, where for 15 years he served as the Boy Scout Master of Troop 92. He was a deacon of Hillcrest Baptist Church as well as past president of the Lions Club International. He is survived by his wife, Lettie; daughter, Jennifer Shivers (Frankie); sons, Jeffery Porter (Kristen), and Paul Porter (Courtney); grandchildren, Mitchell Darnell, Tristan Burrell, Ian Burrell, William Porter, Natalee Porter, Parker Porter, and Lilly Porter; and great grandchild, Harrison Burrell. The memorial service with military honors provided by Campbell Patriots will be held Monday, November 21, 2022, at 3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. David Cox officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:30 pm.
