James Vernon Tannery, age 84, of 242 Big Oak Road, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his residence with his family by his side. Born in Anderson County, SC on August 2, 1932, he was the son of the late John Vernon and Annie Ridley Tannery. He was the beloved husband of the late Peggy Louise Freeman Tannery until her death in 2015. Mr. Tannery proudly served his country in the US Army where he was a member of the 187th Airborne Division. He served in the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in a hostile environment. James was a supervisor for the United States Postal Service, working for over thirty years at the Anderson postal facility. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Alexander and her husband, Terry, of Anderson, and Lori Moore and her friend, Buddy Headen, of Seneca; one granddaughter, Tabitha Patrick and her husband, Jeff; and a great-granddaughter, Holly Segars. In addition to his parents and his wife, Peggy, Mr. Tannery was preceded in death by a son, James Martin Tannery; two brothers, R.B. Tannery and Charles Tannery, and three sisters, Virginia Moore, Mary Stephens and Doris Lee. The family would like to thank the staff of Providence Hospice for the loving care they provided Mr. Tannery while in their care. A graveside service to celebrate and honor the life of James Tannery will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Chaplain Andre Kroneman officiating.
