James R. Wheeler, age 76, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born February 17, 1950, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late N.L. Addison and Geneva Wheeler Addison.

Byrd spent his career as a welder in the construction industry. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars, fishing, hunting, and riding horses. He also loved his hamburgers and watching old western movies. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his brothers, Randall Addison (Tamara) of Iva, SC, Terry Addison (Cindy) of Commerce, GA, and Ronnie Addison (Lisa) of Lowndesville, SC; sisters, Donna Kidd of Elberton, GA, and Marlene Brooks (Wayne) of Anderson, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Wanda White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Patriot Hospice, 4741 Hwy 153, Easley, SC 29642.
