James Whitfield, Jr. Anderson, SC James "Jim" Whitfield, Jr., age 84, of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC, on October 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Fannie Whitfield Miller and the late James Luther Whitfield. He was a graduate of Anderson Boys High School, class of 1950. A 35 year retiree (1986) of Owens Corning Fiberglas, Jim was an advanced engineer, holding several patents for the company and one of the first persons hired for the company on day one of their initial opening. He had 12 years of service in the National Guard. He was a Master Mason, with over 50 years of service in the Hiram Lodge and a life member of Hejaz. He was a lifetime, active member of Orrville Baptist Church and the Bannister Bible Class. He is survived by his wife, Jean H. Whitfield, of the home; and sons, Brian Whitfield (Faye), and James E. Hammond, Jr. (Penney); a sister, Kathleen Kellam (Rufus); three grandchildren, Shaunda, B.J. and Christy; his special buddy for many years, Perry Carnes; beloved Sunday School Teacher, Lillian Pruitt "Miss Lillie"; and his "baby girl" for her entire life, Earline Gray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Ferguson Whitfield; a daughter, Johnnie Lois, two infant sons, Dennis Michael and Richard Timothy Whitfield; and a sister Virginia Goodman, of Orlando, FL The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
