Obituary

Jean N. Alewine Boerne, TX Jean Nichols Alewine, age 82, passed away peacefully with family after a heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease on May 9, 2015 in Boerne, Texas. Born in Anderson, SC, on September 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late McDuffie Nichols and the late Clara Leone Brock Nichols. She spent many years of her life in Starr, South Carolina. She loved music and served as church organist at Flat Rock Baptist and Middleton Road Baptist Churches. She also was the Director of Admissions at Anderson College for several years prior to moving to Amarillo, Texas in 1978 when Boyce was transferred with Owens-Corning Fiberglas. Jean enjoyed living in Texas and quickly made many friends in Amarillo. She especially loved her career at MESA, Inc., a Boone Pickens company. She and Boyce retired while living in Amarillo, Texas and returned to Starr, South Carolina where she and Boyce spent many years. During those years, she thoroughly enjoyed her time working with the McDougald Funeral home. In 2007, she and Boyce moved to Boerne,Texas to live closer to her daughter, Libby. Jean was an active member of The First Baptist Church in Boerne, Texas. She was also active at the Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place in Boerne. With her fundraising assistance, the center was able to construct a new building with a state-of-the-art center for seniors in Boerne and surrounding communities. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James Boyce 'Bud' Alewine and her children, Barbara A. Johnson of Huntington Beach, CA, Elizabeth (Libby) A. Hanse and her husband, Lee A. Hanse of Boerne, TX; two sisters, Bobbie Cross and Nancy Worley of Anderson, SC, five grandchildren, Leigh Shore William and her husband, Ingo, Keegan B. Higgins and his wife, Sara, Luke A. Hanse, Lance A. Hanse, Logan A. Hanse; and four great-grandchildren, Noah, Zoe, Jonas and Caius William. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Gertrude Dudley, Geneva Brown, Hattie Wilson and two brothers, Lawrence D. Nichols, Sr. and Sherman Nichols. A memorial service honoring Jean's life will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Starr, SC with Reverends Ralph Carter, Sr., Jerry Nation and Dale Cross officiating. Her final resting place will be at the Flat Rock Cemetery in Starr, SC. Memorials may be made in honor of Jean N. Alewine and mailed to the Flat Rock Cemetery Fund in care of Mellie B.
