Jean Adele Barnard Durant, age 82, died Thursday, September 10, 2015, at her home surrounded by the presence and love of her husband, of 60 years, Jack Durant, her three loving children, John Durant, Jennifer Durant Bruynell, and Linda Durant Loomis, and four of her grandchildren. The love of her deceased son, Thomas Durant, was present in spirit.
Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Harold Allen Barnard and the late Leta Luella Frame Barnard. She received a BS in Nursing from Northwestern University in 1955. She worked as an RN until becoming a full-time mother with her first child, Thomas. As the children grew she pursued a hobby of hand weaving and eventually formed a retail business in hobby supplies. She was later joined by her husband who developed the mail-order end of business.
After surviving cancer in 1988, she became active in local politics in Polk County, NC and finally served as a Red Cross Disaster volunteer. She touched many lives for the better and will be missed.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date in Indiana.
The family will be at the home.
