BELTON
Jean Burton Murdock passed away at her home on Friday, July 17, 2015. Born in Abbeville County on May 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Crawford Leo Burton and Inez Patterson Burton. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and a former member of Little River Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Dixie High School. She was a homemaker for many years and formerly worked for Clemson University, Belton Bank, and the Anderson County School District Two Administrative Office.
She had a "God Glow," something that comes from knowing deep inside your heart that you are a child of the Most High God, that radiated from the inside out. She was an exemplary wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her Lord, loved worshiping Him, His Word, His Church, her family, her church family, and those beyond. Serving her Lord in church faithfully as a Sunday school teacher of adults and children, church librarian, member of the Homemakers Class, WMU Circle, and Happy Agers gave her much joy.
She was a Proverbs 31 woman, a passage that includes, among other thoughts: "But a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates." She possessed an intimate and practical faith in Christ that provided her and others great joy in all circumstances. She was a gracious "teacher" to the end, having left her son and daughter with a deep and abiding faith. Though dementia robbed her of many things in her last days, her smile and gracious nature remained as a gift to all of us. Without a doubt, she is presently sharing that gracious smile and eternal rest with our loving Heavenly Father.
Mother demonstrated to us that Jesus is THE WAY. She was a kind and gentle lady of deep faith, a woman of honor, and a woman of integrity. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. In our home, "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Thank you, Mother, from our hearts. Your legacy lives on! You taught us how to live and how to die! We love you!
Surviving are her daughter, Melissa Fisher (Ron) of Columbia, SC; son, Steve Murdock of Due West, SC; and sister, Judy Gambrell (Larry) of Honea Path, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Murdock; her parents; sister, Helen Martin (Jay) of Anderson, SC; and brother, Edwin Burton (Lib) of Honea Path, SC.
Friends and family are invited to a Worship Service to honor our Savior and celebrate Jean's life and her love for her Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 3:00 pm at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 at the church prior to the service.
Those wishing to make memorial gifts may make gifts to Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 2603 Due West Hwy, Belton, SC 29627 or to the local Gideons International Chapter.
The family was especially blessed to have many kind, faithful, genuine, loving, and devoted caretakers to walk through this season of our mother's life with us: Sonja Scott, Janice Keener, Ashley Ashley, and Charles Ashley. We are also very thankful and grateful for Caris Hospice of Anderson, SC, for providing love and exceptional care during this last stage of Mother's journey.
