Jerry Miles, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2021 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1941 in Columbus, GA, the son of the late O.V. and Rilda Miles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Miles of Murfreesboro, TN. Jerry grew up in Columbus, GA and was a graduate of Jordan High School. As a young teenager, he worked as a cameraman for WRBL News 3, where he filmed the nightly news. He also worked for a local automotive parts house. Jerry was given an opportunity as a salesperson at Bill Heard Chevrolet where he became enamored with the automobile sales industry. In the mid 1970's, he opened his first new car dealership, Miles Pontiac, in Columbus, GA. He was a true entrepreneur and began numerous business ventures including a restaurant, transmission shop, towing service and other new and used car dealerships. In 1985, he and his wife Mary moved to Anderson, SC where they would open Miles Pontiac once again. One of the highlights in his career was the opening of North Charleston Auto Auction in 2001 in Charleston, SC. His next venture would be co-founding CarBucks Floor Plan in 2004 with his wife, Mary. They sold the company to GrandSouth Bank in 2005 and they both continued with the company in leadership roles until the present. Jerry loved the lake life and was an avid boater. In earlier years, he and Mary enjoyed skeet shooting together. Always appreciative of the outdoors, he spent many days working in the picturesque setting of his yard which was his personal undertaking. In later years, Jerry and Mary were introduced to Charlevoix, Michigan where they spent time vacationing and enjoying the small-town flavor. Jerry will be long remembered for loving his family, creating solid friendships, and being a sounding board for advice to many. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Miles and 5 children (from his previous marriage); daughters Dee Owens (Keith) of Phenix City, AL, Patti Lawler (Phillip) of Lake Forest, CA, Genia Webb and Kristi Miles Williamson of Columbus, GA and son Jeffrey Miles (Ashley) of Anderson, SC. Sister-in-law Melody Miles of Anderson, SC, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 13 from 12:30pm until 1:45pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the Chapel with Rev. Bill Rigsby officiating. Committal to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DCEC (Developmental Center for Exceptional Children), 1100 W.
