James Edward Bredenkamp, of Anderson, SC, passed away at the age of 94 on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
James was born in Sturgis, KY. He attended school in Sturgis and graduated from Morganfield High School in 1948. He was a retired manager in AT&T International Services Division and began his career with AT&T Long Lines in Evansville, IN in 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Jim was an active Shriner, and Emeritus member of the Imperial Public Relations Committee (Shriners Hospitals for Children and Shriners International), member of Hejaz Shriners, past Chief of the Hejaz Fireman Unit and Treasurer of the Anderson Red Fez Club. He was a member of the Masonic Bodies in the Republic of Panama, Past Master and life member of Sojourners Lodge, life member of the Scottish and York Rites, Abou Saad Shriners and Royal Order of Jesters Court 18. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, American Legion, VFW, Korean War Veterans Association, DAV, was Vice President of the Anderson University LLI Travel Club, and a member of the Panama Canal Society.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John Henry Bredenkamp and Oma Lou Toombs Bredenkamp formerly of Morganfield, KY; his first wife Margaret Ellis Kuster Bredenkamp; his second wife Gloria Hawken Mendenhall Bredenkamp the love of his life for 52 years; his brother David Bredenkamp; and two of his stepsons Tony Mendenhall and Terry Kuster.
He is survived by his children and stepchildren Jerry Bredenkamp, Diane Bredenkamp Chereck, Sue Mendenhall Osborne, Linda Mendenhall Doyle, and by 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
