James Ervin "Jim" Carithers, Sr., age 83, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC on September 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Lester Onslow Carithers and the late Alma Manning Carithers. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service to his country, having served during Vietnam aboard USS Osborne, USS Upshur, and USS Bradley. Jim also retired from Michelin Tire Company with over 10 years of employment. He was an avid reader and enjoyed farming and riding his tractor. He was a member of Starr Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia McConnell Carithers; a son, James E. Carithers, Jr. and his wife Karen, of Anderson, SC; a daughter, Connie Carithers Bennett and her husband David, of Starr, SC; one special granddaughter, Kaci Marie Carithers; a brother, Marshall Carithers, of Anderson, SC; and two sisters, Irene Edmonds, of Anderson, SC and Ella Mae Byrum, of Easley, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Lawrence, Onslow, Edward, Calvin, Grady, and Underwood. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Tony Howell and Reverend Andy Bullions officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Starr Baptist Church, PO Box 137, Starr, SC 29684.
