Henry James "Jim" Sjoerdsma, 83, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his residence. Jim was born on March 8th, 1932 to the late Herman and Elsie Mulder Sjoerdsma in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jim lived his life in joyful service to His Lord, his family, and his country. Jim is survived by his loving wife: Shirley Jean Sjoerdsma of 62 years; four children: Daniel (D.J.) Sjoerdsma and wife Sally of Gadsden, AL, Lori Van Oss and husband Randy of Kentwood, MI, Lynn Vannette and husband Jeff of Anderson, SC, and Doug Sjoerdsma and wife Roxanne of Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters: Doris Te Bos and Alberta Hoekwater both of Grand Rapids, MI; a sister-in-law: Kay Rotman and husband Nels of Grand Rapids, MI; one brother: Herman Sjoerdsma and wife Ardy of Byron Center, MI; 16 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; six brothers-in-law: Ray Ezinga, Don Ver Hage, Jack Hager and wife Marlene, John and Mick Hager, Jim Ashby and wife Ann, Bob Hager and wife Linda. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sjoerdsma was preceded in death by family members: Tom Sjoerdsma, Kerwin Te Bos, Harold Hoekwater, Jean Shirley Ezinga, Janet Ver Hage, Pete Hager and wife Lorna, David Meulenburg and wife Helene. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 15th, 2015 at the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC with Military Honors by The Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. Interment will follow the service. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 31st, 2015 at Cornerstone United Reformed, 6442 36th Ave., Hudsonville, MI 49426 at a time to be determined.
