Jimmy Ray Elrod, age 75, of Williamston, SC, devoted husband to Elaine K. Elrod for 57 years, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at his residence. Born June 14, 1947, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Elbert Lee Elrod (Ernestine Bolt Elrod), and Mildred Sargent Elrod. Jimmy graduated from Wren High School, Class of 1965, and from Tri-County Technical College with a criminal justice and mechanical engineering degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 118th Military Police Co., Fort Bragg, NC, and as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles. For his service he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star for Valor, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer and turkey hunter for many years. He was also a member of West Anderson Church of God. Jimmy's heart was Elaine, his high school sweetheart, and all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his absolute pride and joy. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Rae Bowen (Mark), and Ryan Elrod (Paula); grandchildren, Anna Candler (Landon), Isaac Bowen (Ashlan), Haley and Madison Elrod, Samantha McCarson, and Savanna and Caden Lachica; and great-grandchildren, Bowen and Solomon Candler, with two more great-granddaughters on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ernestine Bolt Elrod; brother, Wayne Elrod; and sister, Linda Jackson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
