Joan King Elrod
Joan King Elrod, wife of the late Mack Cely Elrod of Boulevard Heights, Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Fountain Inn, SC on December 4, 1926, Mrs. Elrod was the daughter of the late John Sylvester King and Mamie Ballew King. She graduated second in her class from Liberty High School and Magna Cum Laude from Anderson Junior College where she was a member of Who's Who Denmark Society (one of five great Danes). She served as president of the Student Government of Boarding Students and numerous other activities of the college. After graduation, Mrs. Elrod worked for Deering-Milliken Corporation for several years before becoming an elementary school secretary for 25 years in Anderson School District Five until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as pianist for the Wesley Sunday School Class for many years.
She is survived by sons, Mack Elrod, Jr and his wife, Sandra and Tommy Elrod and his wife, Gloria; two grandchildren, Glenn Elrod and Cely Elrod Tate and her husband, Jason, all of Anderson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00
AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Mary Teasley. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
