Loughlin
July 19, 1930 – July 12, 2025
Mrs. Joan L. Loughlin, age 94, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025. She was formerly of Forest Hills, New York, and the daughter of the late Thomas J. Barrett and Catherine A. (Murphy) Barrett. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert S. Loughlin, and seven siblings.
Joan was a graduate of Forest Hills High School and Pace Institute in New York City. She was a charter member of the Ringwood Ambulance Corps in Ringwood, New Jersey, a longtime volunteer with Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, SC, and a proud former member of the "Bud and Bloom" garden club. A woman of deep faith, she was also a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Known for her vibrant spirit and warm heart, Joan found great joy in her weekly Mahjong games with her dear "Mahjong buds". She cherished her daily walks around the neighborhood, always stopping to chat and connect with friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her five children: Bonnie M. Schatteman and her husband, Paul, of Milford, PA; Robert S. Loughlin Jr. of Greensboro, NC; Colleen Hymes and her husband, Michael, of Anderson, SC; Timothy P. Loughlin of Greenville, SC; and Suzanne Smith and her husband, Michael, of Blauvelt, NY. Joan was the loving grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of six—roles she cherished deeply. Also surviving is her much-loved sister-in-law, Dorothy Joyce Hoyt, of Bradenton, Florida.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church vestibule at 1200 Cornelia Road in Anderson. The funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 pm with Father Philip S. Gillespie officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1303 McLees Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
