Joanne Berry Phillips, age 86, of Iva, SC, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at Landmark Hospital of Athens. Born December 25, 1935, in Lexington, SC, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Hendrix Berry and Inez Roland Berry. She was married to the love of her life, Oscar Lee Phillips, Jr., until his death in 2012. Joanne was a hard worker spending 50 years in the textile industry before retiring. She was a wonderful homemaker for her family whom she loved dearly. She was friendly, loyal and protective of her friends and family. Joanne loved animals and flowers and enjoyed working in her garden. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Phillips (Debbie), Steve Phillips (Susan), and Rev. John Phillips (Janet); daughter, Karen Jinks (Anthony); brother, Dwight Roland Berry; sister, Mary Lou Berry Arant; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Heyward Dewey Berry, George Herman Berry, Norman Berry, and Roy Kenneth Berry; and sister, Florence Berry Shull. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 12:30 pm at Carswell Baptist Church with Rev. Hudson S. White, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Burial will be at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
