Joe Fred Brandt, age 90, of Anderson, SC, was called by our Lord to be with our Christ on Thursday, May 13, 2021. Joe was born November 14, 1930 in Tallahassee, FL, and was the son of the late Fred Dencker Brandt and Anne "Tootsie" Beane Brandt. Joe attended Leon High School and served our country in the United States Navy in Korea and the Pacific area. He was assigned to a marine assault amphibious unit and later a MATS squadron. Joe was a long-time employee of Tenneco Oil Company and a founder and owner of Travelers Petroleum, Inc. d/b/a Self Way of Anderson, SC, doing business in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He was a believing, confessing Baptist with long-term memberships of Boulevard Baptist Church and Andersonville Baptist Church and was also a member of several fraternal orders. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Hazel Haynie Brandt; children, Anne Sanders (Calvin) of Leesville, SC, Karen Laura Brandt of Anderson, SC, and Audrey Jenene Vogel (Henry) of Raleigh, NC; step-children, Janice Ruinard (Ken), Mona Ashley (Mark), Marilyn Parnell (Rick), Barry Burdette (Beth), and Marcus Burdette (Susan); sister, Martha B. Parker of Tallahassee, FL; and the families of each; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora Brandt. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be held Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Bruce Evans officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
