Joe E. Hames, III, age 71, of Anderson, SC, devoted husband to Thelma Irene Scott Hames, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Born September 18, 1950, in Anderson, SC, he is the son of Joe E. Hames, Jr. and the late Alberta Lyelene Dye Hames. Joe was a graduate of T.L. Hanna, Class of 1968, and worked as a purchasing agent for Michelin Tire retiring after 33 years of service. He was a Free Mason, member of Hiram Lodge #68, and was a passionate motorcycle and Hot Rod enthusiast and collector. He was also a devoted member and deacon at Parkwood Baptist Church. In addition to his loving wife Thelma, and father, he is survived by his sons, Brian Scott Hames (Colby), and Stephen Derek Hames; brother, Richard "Dick" Hames (Debbie); and grandchildren, Holden, Winston, Teller, and Evie Hames. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Parkwood Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Whisnant officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun St., Anderson, SC 29621, or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
