Joe J. Holcombe, age 86, of Iva, SC, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Rainey Hospice House. He was born April 19, 1935, in Oconee County, SC, and was the son of the late William Parker Holcombe and Emeline Williams Holcombe. Joe was employed with Owens Corning Fiberglass in Anderson for 42 years. He was a long-time, faithful member of Carswell Baptist Church, having attended since he was 9 years old and had served as a deacon and treasurer for many years. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed gardening and camping. He is survived by his wife, Faye Vaughn Holcombe of the home; son, Randall Holcombe (Brenda) of Sylva, NC; daughter, Debbie Phillips (Ronnie) of Iva, SC; sister, Cora Lee Meredith of Greenwood, SC, and Kathryn Martin of Iva, SC; granddaughter, Brittany Thornberry (Austin) of Anderson, SC; and great grandchildren, Butchie and Ally Thornberry. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Carlton; and brother, Henry Holcombe. The family will receive friends Monday, July 5, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Carswell Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Hudson White and Rev. Harold Walters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carswell Baptist Church, 4301 Flat Rock Rd., Iva, SC 29655.
