Obituary

Joe Kight, age 91, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at AnMed Medical Center.

Born January 19, 1935, in Clarkston, GA, he was the youngest of four sons of the late Paul Kight, Sr. and Gladys Viola Barnett Kight. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and their spouses, Paul Kight, Jr. (Willie) and Otis Gilbert Kight (Marie); and sister-in-law, Patricia Kight.

Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He received his master's degree from the University of Georgia. He enjoyed a long career as a wildlife biologist having worked with the Georgia Game and Fish Commission, the US Forest Service in Virginia, Texas, and Alabama, and finally with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Florida retiring as the Assistant Resource Manager at Lake Seminole. He loved to fly and even though he survived a helicopter crash, his love of flying never wavered. In his spare time, he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, golfing, and fishing. He was also an avid builder and shooter of muzzle loading rifles. Most of all Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Glenda Newton Kight; son, Daniel "Danny" Harrison Kight (Mary); daughter, Lynne Kight; brother, Ben Kight; grandchildren, Sarah Lowenthal, Hannah Lowenthal, Jennifer Russell (Sean), Stephanie Kight (Jacob), Rebecca Kight, and Andrew Kight; and great grandchildren, Ava Russell and Samantha Russell.

The service will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Ferguson officiating. The family will speak with guests immediately following the service. A committal will be held at a later date at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
