JOE P. SMITH, SR. June 29, 1923 - June 5, 2012 ANDERSON, SC Joe Pressley Smith, Sr., age 88, of 205 Sumter Street, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Born in Elbert County, GA he was the son of the late James Victor Smith and the late Florrie Ann Stamps Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the Medical Corps. He was a chaplain and member of the Disabled American Veterans. He worked as a millwright at Daniels Construction. Mr. Smith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, and as a Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his children, Ralph Donnie Smith and his wife Jo Ann of Pendleton, SC , James Ronnie Smith and Judy Bannister, both of Anderson, SC and Cathy Gentry of Starr, SC; a sister, Dorothy Alverson and her husband Cecil of Pelzer, SC; 12 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren, 5 Great-Great Grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Elizabeth White Smith; a son, Joe "Joey" Pressley Smith, Jr.; a grandson, Wesley Alan Smith; 5 brothers and 7 sisters. The Funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Reverend Richard Gibson will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
