Joe Billy "Cooter" Tilley, age 77, of 4504 Lanier Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Leroy Tilley and the late Mary Timms Tilley. For over 54 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Beverly Dahl Tilley of the home. Mr. Tilley was a graduate of Boys High School in Anderson, Class of 1954. He proudly served his nation in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway. Cooter was a technician, having retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 35 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by 3 sons, Joseph M. Tilley and his wife, Carolyn, of Townville, Johnny D. Tilley and his wife, Fredner, of Anderson, and James B. Tilley and his wife, Donna, of Fair Play; 3 grandsons, Cody, Preston, and Daniel Tilley; also surviving are 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Leon and Douglas Tilley; and 2 sisters, Ruth Brown and Katherine Hanna. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Joe Billy Tilley will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 3 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Parnell officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family is at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 1 PM until 2:30 PM.
