JOEL ATKINS ANDERSON, SC Thomas Joel Atkins, age 83, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Elbert County, GA, on June 22, 1930, he was the son of the late William Thomas Atkins and the late Stella Christine Partain Atkins. He was a 1947 graduate of Boy's High. Joel was a former employee at Wellington Mill, but retired from BASF with over 20 years of service. He was a former member of Homeland Park Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon, Training Union Instructor and involved in the bus ministries. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sue Stone Atkins; daughters, Susan Richey, Lynne Murphy and her husband Robert and Alyson Allen and her husband David, all of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy and Joshua Richey, and Elliott and Lara Allen; four great-grandchildren, Nolan, Bryson, Chandler and Carson Richey; and one brother. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend J. Floyd Stansell, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
