Ashley, Sr.
October 25, 1935 – January 31, 2025
John Wendell "Wink" Ashley, Sr., age 89, of Belton, SC, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at AnMed Medical Center.
Born October 25, 1935, in Belton, SC, he was the son of the late John Thomas "Tom" Ashley and Mamie Wilson Ashley. He was married for 49 years to Ruby "Polly" Wynell Hawkins Ashley until her death in 2018. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Wilson Ashley and his wife, Gloria Ashley.
John was a graduate of Boys High and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Math from Erskine College. He retired from Owens Corning as a quality supervisor. He was the owner of Fairview Farm and was the co-owner of Craytonville Feed and Seed. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and member of the Cemetery Committee. John was devoted to his family and his grandchildren Joshua and Whitner were his pride and joy. His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, John W. Ashley, Jr. of Belton; daughter, Wendy Ashley-Bobo (Robert) of Belton; and grandchildren, Joshua Bobo and Whitner Bobo.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers Janna Honicutt and Veronica Marshall for the wonderful care provided.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 3:00 pm at the church with Pastor Mark Krieger officiating. A private interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Donnie Murdock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Committee, 2603 Due West Highway, Belton, SC 29627.
The family will be at the home.
