John Thomas Barr, 99, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born March 3, 1925, in Uhrichsville, OH, he was the son of the late John Ayers Barr and Laverne Elaine Thomas Barr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Kathleen Joan Barr, a sister, Betty Barr Miller, and a daughter-in-law, Gayle Barr.

He was a US Navy veteran having served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Wasp CV-18 and was a recipient of a purple heart. John loved to travel with his precious wife of 71 years, and was very active in his church, particularly with offering financial counseling to widows. In his spare time, he enjoyed being a faithful Ohio Buckeyes football fan and a member of the Masons/Shrine.

He is survived by sons, Larry Thomas Barr, Thomas Ayers Barr, John Addison Barr (Jamie), and James Whitney Barr (Stephanie) and a granddaughter, Amelia Marie Barr.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 10:00 am at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
