John Wallace Bearden, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenville, SC on August, 1, 1925, he was the son of the late W.R. Bearden and the late Hattie Orr Bearden. Wallace proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a member of the Hiram Lodge. He worked in insurance sales throughout his life, retiring with Independent Life Insurance Company. He was a devoted member of Concord Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and a long time secretary with the Don Latham Sunday School Class. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret Hammond Bearden of the home; children, Mike Bearden and his wife Iris, of Fountain Inn, SC, Connie Compton and her husband Steve, of West Union, SC, and Andy Bearden and his wife Melanie, of Fountain Inn; grandchildren, Carrie Ravan, Daniel Bearden, Jeremy Bearden, Maegan McClure, Will Bearden and Derrin Compton; and great-grandchildren, Brodie Bearden, Noah Ravan, Emma Ravan, Rivers Bearden, Grace Bearden and Adalyn McClure. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverends Dr. Don Cox, Bob Marcaurelle and Mike Bearden officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service on Friday, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
