John Klenner Boyte, Sr.
John Klenner Boyte, Sr, 78-years-old, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the home of his youngest son, David, in Cary, NC. He was visiting along with his wife, Ruth, and his oldest son, John, Jr. John was born on January 12, 1937 in Pinehurst, NC to Joe and Alma Boyte.
One of four children, John and twin brother Jim married sisters, Ruth and Jan Parlier respectively of West Jefferson, NC. After graduating from Carthage High School, he served in the army for three years before going to college. His favorite story was meeting his sweetheart, Ruth, during his first year at Appalachian State University. They were married the following year on June 3, 1961. Married for nearly 54 years, John & Ruth raised their two sons to know and walk with Christ. John dedicated his career to teaching at Anderson University for 33 years, influencing countless students both professionally and personally. John had an unwavering faith in God and a love for family, friends, and the grace with which the Lord showered him all of his days. Even throughout his own struggle with cancer, he stood out as the one most encouraging, thankful, and loving of others. With his contagious smile, he would reach out to and express thanks to his doctors, maintenance personnel, other patients, and people around him. During his last visit with his oncology provider, he nearly moved her to tears with his encouragement. John served in many ways at his church home, Boulevard Baptist, including serving as a deacon for many years. He led his family in worship, reading the Bible and praying with them. His devotion to the Lord and His Word, his nurturing and selfless love, and his humor and laughter testify to the abundant life he had in Christ.
He will be remembered in many ways that will continue to point his family and friends to Jesus. A life well-lived here for the glory of God for all eternity.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth, his sons, John Jr. and David, his daughters-in-law, Cheryl and Hadyn, and his grandchildren, John III (JJ), Casey, Caleb, Xiabe, Salem and Cedar, whom he loved with all of his heart.
