John Jerome Burke, III, age 80, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at his home.
Born February 11, 1944, in Laredo, TX, he was the son of the late John Jerome Burke, Jr. and Alma Taylor Burke.
John was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the 82nd Airborne and 5th Special Forces and was a graduate of the University of Texas. He was a successful chemical salesman with various companies throughout his career, accumulating many awards and recognitions. He also formerly owned and operated Burke Builders. John was a selfless, giving man who never failed to help others in need. He was a former Boy Scout leader, foster parent, and coached his children in youth sports. He was an avid history buff and member of the Belton Area Museum Association, and the Lions Club in Belton.
He is survived by his wife, Moonyeen Seigler Burke; sons, John J. Burke, IV, Patrick Burke (Andrea), and Jeremy Burke; daughter, Lisa Owen (John); stepsons, Steve Tysl (Cheryl) and Greg Tysl (Karen); stepdaughters, Rhonda T. Gaffney (Jeffrey), Lori T. Salisbury (Mason), and Juli T. Ludwig (Joey); brother, Lott Burke (Patty); sister, Melanie B. Ross; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 8 step grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty Burke.
The memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, the Belton Area Museum Association, or First Baptist Church of Belton.
