John William Campbell, 88, of Starr, SC passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Rainey Hospice House. Born January 26, 1930 in Anderson County, SC, he was a son of the late Whitt and Mary Herron Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ellen Moore Campbell and two brothers, Herbert and Ernest Campbell. John was a graduate of Boys High School, class of 1947. He retired from the South Carolina National Guard, was an Anderson County Magistrate Judge for 10 years and retired from Owens Corning after 38 years, after being on the start up team for the plant in 1951. He was a mason in the Herman Lodge #116 having earned his 50 year pin. He was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church in Starr, where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, choir member, RA leader and trustee. He also had served with Gideons International in the Starr Iva Camp and on the Anderson County School Board of District Three. He is survived by his children, John W. Campbell, Jr. and wife, Hope of Alpharetta, GA, Gregg B. Campbell and his wife, Karen of Starr, SC and Susan Campbell Pettigrew and her husband, Randy of Iva, SC; grandchildren, Brandie Suzette Campbell, Mandie Campbell Cummins (Michael), Will Turner (Paige) and Jake Turner; one great-grandchild, Campbell Grace Cummins; special little buddy, Sean Thomas; sister-in-law, Frances Campbell and numerous special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, October 12, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be in the chapel at 2:00pm on Saturday. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors and masonic rites.
