John Mack Child, 86, of Anderson passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Rainey Hospice House. Born November 9, 1932 in Cateechee, SC, he was a son of the late Robert R. and Anna Belvia Rice Child. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julia C. Garrett and brother, Jim Child. John was a graduate of Boys High School, class of 1951. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired with 40 years of service from Independent Life and was a member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Vera Ethel Gilstrap Child; son, David P. Child; daughter, Celeste C. Honea; sister-in-law, Lynda Child and grandchildren, Sydney Honea and John Thomas Garrett. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-1:30pm Friday, February 1, 2019 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00pm Friday with Rev. Dan Batson and Rev. Cy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery with military honors.
