John Chipps Anderson, SC John Herbert Chipps, Jr. died peacefully at his home in Anderson, SC on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the age of 80. John is survived by his wife, Beulah Mae Gray Chipps; his son, Dywayne Chipps (Joanne), of Pickens, SC, and daughters, Mona Lowe (Don), of Columbia, SC and Nancy Pamisano (Jim), of Round Hill, VA, AFS daughter Sylvania Meniconi Brito of Vina del mar, Chile; 12 grandchildren, Trish (Adam), John Allen (Amanda), Sarah (Robert), Hannah, Joshua, Andrew, Anthony, Lucas, Jarod, Zipporah, Jordan, and Reuben; three great-grandchildren, Robby, Zedekiah, and Maren; and two sisters, Martha Ross and Susan Watson (Pat); honorary brother and sister, Leon Gray and Freda Irwin; and life-long friends, Roger Snyder and Bob Viers. He is preceded in death by his parents, John H. Chipps and L. Irene Wilson Chipps, his sister, Peggy Dye, his great-granddaughter Areille, dear friend Gene Johnson, and buddy, Bronson. John was born on March 6, 1935, in Richwood, WV. In 1957 he married the love of his life, "Boots". They raised their three kids in a few cities but most notably are the home that he built himself in Pierpont, OH and their home for the late 31 years, in Anderson, SC. John worked 37 years at True Temper Corporation. When he wasn't there, he was always building something for someone! He was a skilled craftsman! Most people reading this can say "I have something John Chipps built for me!" He was a man of few words but extremely generous in his time and talents!! He delivered CLTC meals and also coordinated frozen meals for Senior Solutions. John was an Elder at Pierpont Presbyterian Church in OH and a long-time member of the Desire Sunday School Class at New Prospect Baptist Church in SC. His faith was the cornerstone in the legacy he built. Faith, Family, Friends, in that order, exemplifies the way he lived his life! The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, SC with the services on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend Dr. Tony Smith will officiate the ceremony. John will be laid to rest at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors for his service in the United States Air Force. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC or to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
