John Pilcher Evans, age 98, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Rainey Hospice House. He was born September 7, 1922 and raised in Wrens, GA, by Christian parents, the late William T. Evans and Ethel Gay Evans. He was married to the late Bernice Smith Evans. After graduating high school, John joined the United States Navy and served three years aboard the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked for 32 years with Big Star Supermarket and later, for 26 years with Bi-Lo. John was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church for 58 years. He is survived by his children, Johnny Evans (Lisa) and Brenda Glenn (Mike); grandchildren, Scott Glenn (Dana), Matt Glenn (Rebecca), Amanda Forrest (Shannon), and Jonathan Evans (Andrea); and nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Caleb Forrest, Hayley and Ella Glenn, Luke and Ethan Evans, and Easton and Corey Glenn. Family and friends may pay their respects and sign the Guest Register on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Perry Duggar and Dr. Matthew Danuser officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Social distancing will be observed and masks are recommended. Those serving as pallbearers are Scott Glenn, Jonathan Evans, Matt Glenn, Shannon Forrest, Jacob Forrest, Caleb Forrest and Joshua Forrest. Honorary pallbearers are Luke Evans and Ethan Evans.
