John Franklin Farr, Jr, age 86, entered into rest on June 27, 2026. He was born and raised in Anderson, SC and was the son of John F. Farr, Sr. (Frank) and Elizabeth C. Farr.
After attending Boys High School in Anderson, he graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of SC, with a degree in Business. John entered the United States Army after college where he served for two years as a Platoon Leader in an Armor Unit at Fort Carson, CO. After an Honorable Discharge from service, he returned to Anderson to run the family business, Farr Music House.
John was a devoted husband and father as well as a life-long member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and in various leadership roles. He had a strong love and talent for bass fishing, and he won numerous amateur and professional tournaments. The highlight of his fishing career was when he qualified for and participated in the 1974 Bass Masters Classic. John was an avid fan of University of Georgia football, Duke University basketball and trips to Panama City Beach, FL. He never met an animal that he did not like and enjoyed spending time with his pets.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles E. Farr. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Evelyn Manning Farr, and his two sons: John F. Farr, III, MD (Julia) of Augusta, GA and Richard Christopher Farr of Anderson. He is also survived by his two granddaughters: Sarah Margaret Farr and Catherine Manning Farr.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 2609 US-29, Anderson, SC 29621, at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The family will receive visitors directly afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the PAWS Shelter in Anderson or the St. John's United Methodist Church's Care Team and Organ Fund.
