FORTNER July 28, 1925 - May 25, 2011 ANDERSON, SCJohn Henry Fortner 'The Pecan Man' age 85, formerly of P Street, and husband of the late Betty Jean Massey Fortner, passed away on May 25, 2011 at NHC HealthCare.Born in Anderson, SC, Mr. Fortner was a son of the late Joe and Lizzie Fortner. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He retired from Anderson Mill with 36 years of service. He was a member of Little Holiness Church of God.Survivors include his sons Bob Fortner of Belton, Michael Fortner, Sr., and Randy Fortner, both of Anderson; daughters, Myra Bridges of Simpsonville, Deborah Fortner of Townville, Angie Richey of Anderson and Angel Fortner of Townville; sister, Irene Harper of Anderson; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by a brother, Junior Fortner.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery officiated by the Reverends Mary Sims Touchton and Bruce Duff with Military honors provided by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Fortner, Jr., Paul Fisher, Tim Fortner, Randy Fortner and Tommy Selman.
