John Henry Whitfield, age 87, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at NHC Healthcare Anderson.
Born December 13, 1936, in Anderson, he was a son of the late Hansel K. Whitfield and Mary Etta Mize Whitfield. He was also preceded in death by10 siblings, Lee Vaughn, Eunice Webb, Ruzie Brock, Zelma Dodgens, Ginny Harbin, Mary Ruth Evans, Betty Baker, Joe Whitfield, Larry Whitfield, and Ruby Nell Bailey.
John retired from True Temper after 36 years of faithful service to the company. He was very athletic in his younger years and played basketball and softball in the textile leagues. He was an avid Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves fan. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gail Morrison Whitfield with whom he would have celebrated 35 years of marriage in June. He is also survived by his daughter, Jerrie Foust (Chip); stepson, Scott Busha (Lynn); stepdaughter, Robin Smith (Tim); brothers, Billy Whitfield and Wade Whitfield; grandchildren, D.J. Foust (Caroline), and Gunner Foust; great grandchildren, Palmer and Lillian Foust; step grandchildren, Payton, Hunter, Sawyer, Kendall, Haley, Taylor, Dylan, and Hayden; and step great grandchildren, Saria, Ada, Mavis, Allison, Kitty, Harley, Rowan, Knox, Sampson, Nolan, and Clare.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 1:00-2:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Joe Whisnant officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
