John Paul Hitchcock, Sr. 91, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, died Monday, December 26, 2016, at Richard Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home. Paul was born August 8, 1925, in Atlanta, GA, he was preceded in death by his father, Paul Augustus Hitchcock and Ollie Mae Johnson Hitchcock; two brothers, Ed and Hubert; and a daughter Paulette. Paul leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Hilda Browning Hitchcock; his daughter, Becky Reed and her husband Johnny , of Anderson; a daughter, Susan Hudson, of Canton, GA; and a son, John Paul Hitchcock, Jr. and his wife Joanna, of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Paul served in the Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on the USS Intrepid. He was a Corpsman. Paul returned home after three years of service and worked his way through Atlanta School of Law where he obtained his law degree. Paul entered the business world and retired as Vice President of a division of Wachovia Bank. Paul and Hilda attended Concord Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. He loved the Lord and was always fond of saying we needed to be sure we were prayed up. He loved to sing the old Gospel hymns. Paul spent his entire life loving the Lord and his family and taking care of everyone. He will be dearly remembered and missed for his devotion to God, family, and service to his country The Funeral Service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be made to Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Boulevard, #L, Anderson, SC 29621.
