JOHN B. HOOPERAPRIL 22, 1924 - June 6, 2009 ANDERSON, SC ' John Brown Hooper, age 85, of 104 Garden Gate passed away on June 6, 2009 at his residence. Born in Goldmine, GA on April 22, 1924, he was a son of the late John Harvey Hooper and Callie Queen Hooper. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and earned a B.S. degree in Engineering from Clemson University. Mr. Hooper retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a Mason, a member of the Lion's Club of Anderson, and Concord Baptist Church where he attended the Don Latham Sunday School Class. Previously, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church for more than fifty years serving as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He was twice married, first to the late Gertrude 'Trudy' Harbuck Hooper; and secondly to Melvie Adams Coleman Hooper. In addition to his wife, his stepchildren survive him: Bonnie Ellis of Baton Rouge, LA, Cheryl Hudson of Lavonia, GA, and Randy Coleman of Charleston, WV; seven step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Callie H. O'Barr of Anderson. Mr. Hooper was predeceased by his parents; his first wife; and his siblings: Dale, Harvey, J.R., J.D., and Frank Hooper, Flora Porter, Mamie Stamps, Virginia Cole, and Ada King. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverends Philip McAlister and Jack Ellenburg. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 8, 2009 from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM. Flowers are optional.
