John Dexter Jones, age 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born January 12, 1937, in Ware Shoals, SC, he was a son of the late Charles Everette Jones and Lillian Rush Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Jones; and sister, Lillian Gibson.
John was a graduate of Clemson University and was retired from the Department of Social Services. He was a veteran of the United States Military having proudly served in the Army, the South Carolina National Guard and the Air National Guard. He was an avid outdoors enthusiast and stayed active as long as his health permitted. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. John loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gale McClimon Jones; son, Robert Andrew Jones; brothers, James E. "Spunk" Jones (JoAnn) and George Earl Jones (A.C.); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 8, 2023, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm in the Welcome Center of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm in the sanctuary with Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. The committal service with military honors will be at 2:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, 302 W. Whitner St., Anderson, SC 29624.
