Lyons
September 14, 1957 – April 15, 2024
Johnny Lyons, age 66, died on April 15, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House. He was a life-long resident of Anderson, S.C., born in North Anderson in 1957, formative years in the family home behind Caters Lake, and much of his adult life on or near Lake Hartwell. He is a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and attended Clemson University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Brevitz Lyons 2 ½ years ago. He was also preceded by his parents, Mary Ann Hammett Lyons and John Joseph Lyons, Jr. as well as his brother, Bubba Lyons; also, his nephew, Hayden Fulp and aunt, Lidge Hammett Andreas. He is survived by his twin brother, Martin Andrew Lyons (and wife Anne) of Belmont, N.C., and his sisters: Andi Lyons Cannell of Bluffton, S.C., Lee Lyons of Highlands, N.C., and Gay Lyons Haley (and husband Bill) of Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Miriam Lyons, and Cheryl Brevitz Mitchell (Danny) and his aunt, Anne Lyons Pruitt of Cashiers, N.C. and Charleston, S.C. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Andrew Cannell, Mary Anna Lyons Cater, Jaime Lyons Wilson, Hayley Lyons Beatty, Heidi Wirey, John Haley, and Ann Haley. While several yellow labs preceded him, Johnny is survived by Boone. He has been a lifelong sports fan and loved life on the lake for most of his life.
Johnny worked in textiles and other manufacturing jobs for many years. He retired early due to declining physical health. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family at home. Over the past several years he came to consider caregivers from Upstate Healthcare as friends, starting with owner, Jimmy Pennell and including Larry Newell, Charmian Hanvey, and nurse Nancy Aten-Hames. Ann Bradley Brissey is not only a special caregiver but a cousin too.
A service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the historic Old Silver brook Cemetery. All extended family and friends are welcome to the graveside service and a reception afterwards at the McDougald Family Center for Johnny's favorites: Skin's hotdogs and caramel cake from The Sweetery. You can follow us from McDougald Funeral Home at about 10:30 a.m. or meet us at the cemetery.
