John Franklin McCalpin, age 91, of 311 Simpson Road, Cottage H-2, Anderson Place, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Rainey Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Born on March 12, 1923, in Fredonia, NY, he was the son of the late John Ballard McCalpin and the late Lillian Roderick McCalpin. For 71 wonderful years, he was the devoted and loving husband of Jonnie C. McCalpin. Mr. McCalpin proudly served his country in the US Navy where he was a Gunners Mate during WW II. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion while living in Florida. John was a member of Wesconnett United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, FL. His hobbies include wood working, painting and gardening. Vocationally he was in the printing business for many years doing contract printing. In addition to his wife, Jonnie, he is survived by a son, John F. McCalpin, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Suwanee, GA; a daughter, Kathy Satterfield and her husband, Dennis, of Honea Path, SC; 4 grandchildren, Daniel C. McCalpin, Amanda Loewen, Dennis Satterfield, Jr., and Derek Satterfield and his wife, Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Beau Loewen. The funeral service to celebrate the life of John McCalpin will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Busha officiating. Interment will follow at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
