Obituary

John David McCurry of Belton, SC passed away on October 23, 2023. Born June 14, 1954 in Honea Path, SC, he was the son of Allen Duwane and Frances McAlister McCurry.

Known by most as Johnny or Johnny Mac, he was a kind and humble man of few words, but strong faith and strength. He placed a high value on listening to others and, at times, his quiet smile was enough to affirm that he was happy to have heard your story. He loved history, nature, and the Gamecocks. But most of all, he loved his family and they loved him so very dearly. Some of his best friends were the veterans he often visited with at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. He enjoyed hearing their stories and sharing meaningful time with them.

Predeceased by his brother Joe Lane McCurry, he is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Denise Delahanty McCurry, and their three children, Emily Wall (Josh) of Fort Mill, SC, Ben McCurry (Jennifer) of Hanahan, SC, and Kelsey Reynolds (Matt) of Bryan, Texas.

He is also survived by his eight grandchildren who think he hung the moon and called him Pa; Grant, Jacob, Grace, Tegan, Alice, Ben, Samuel, and Mia.

A celebration of life service will be held at the family's home in their field on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2 p.m. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for refreshments and to reminisce and share stories.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you go for a walk outside and enjoy nature as Johnny would. Donations in memory of Johnny can be made to the Richard M. Campbell Memorial Fund, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.
