J. RAINEY MOODYMARCH 20, 1942 - SeptEMBER 30, 2010ANDERSON, SC ' John Rainey Moody, age 68, passed away to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at 5:30 pm.Born in Travelers Rest, SC, on March 20, 1942, he was a son of the late Hext P. Moody and Agnes Moody. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. In 1964, Mr. Moody received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University. He retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas and was the Administrative Manager of the Chemical Plant for the last ten years of his employment. Following his retirement, he was employed for eight years by Quality Electric. Mr. Moody was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church for thirty-eight years, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. Additionally, he taught Sunday School for thirty-four years until his health declined. Rainey was passionate about serving as a Board Member of the Haven of Rest for thirty years. He also served as a Board Member for the Macedonia Call Ministries, Jesse Powers Evangelistic Association, the Haiti Christian Missions, and the Board of Mission Development. He was a member of Gideons International and served as President of the Residential Services Parent & Family Club of Anderson County Disabilities and Special Needs Board for twelve years. Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Rose Rampey Moody; a daughter, Dr. Robin Lyn Moody; a brother, Donald Ray Moody; his wife's parents: Mr. & Mrs. Victor Rampey; all of Anderson, SC.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Moody.The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Varennes Heights Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Kirt Mitchell and the Reverend James Dyar. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.The family is at the home of Harold & Darla Carnes, 1703 Millgate Road, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm on Sunday, prior to the service at Varennes Heights Baptist Church.Flowers will be accepted or a memorial may be made to any of the above listed Charities ' all were very special to Rainey.
