PARNELL March 2, 1926 - May 4, 2008ANDERSON, SCMr. John Mason Parnell, age 82, formerly of 1317 E. Broad Street, Iva, SC, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.Born in Lowndesville, SC on March 2, 1926, Mr. Parnell was the son of the late Albert Lester Parnell and Sarah Mildred Nixon Parnell. He retired from Jackson Mill and served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Dew Drop Masonic Lodge in Antreville, the American Legion of Iva and was a founding member of Iva Rescue Squad. Mr. Parnell was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.Survivors include his daughter, Sarah (Jerry) Burdette of Iva, SC, sons, Richard (Teresa) Parnell of Kansas, Walter Parnell (Teresa Hilley, girlfriend) of Iva, daughter-in-law, Susan Parnell of Iva; grandchildren, Kelly, Mike and Glen McMahan, Angela Strickland, Robert Parnell, Denise Todd, Tina Price, Beth Parnell, Richard Lee and Tyler Parnell and Luke Parnell. Great-grandchildren, Eric Payne, Mackienze McMahan, Justin Fountain, Lea Parnell, Jacob and Justin McMahan, Shawn Price, Hunter Parnell, Dakota Todd, Lillie Grace Strickland, Rhianna Nova, Masey Parnell and Emilee Ramirez. One great-great-grandchild, Riley Pruitt; brother, James D. (Irene) Parnell and sisters, Alma (Walter) Palmer and Mildred Robison; caregiver and close friend, Tim McMillan.He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Burton Parnell, son John Albert Parnell, brother, William Hoyt 'Bill' Parnell and sister, Juanita Tate.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Rocky River Baptist Church officiated by the Reverends Brian Gray and Stephen Payne. Honorary Pallbearers will be the member of the Dew Drop Masonic Lodge and Pallbearers will be his nephews. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday May 6, 2008 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
