CARL PAYNE July 16, 1921 - June 20, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. John Carl Payne, age 85, husband of Claris Watt Payne of 1601 Bolt Drive, Anderson, SC, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at his residence.Born in Hartwell, GA on July 16, 1921, Mr. Payne was a son of the late John Thomas Payne and Ellen Pearl Haley Payne. He was a United States Army World War II veteran. After retiring from textiles, he became a training supervisor with the Fast Fare Convenient Stores. He was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge #240 and was a Hejaz Shriner. Mr. Payne was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was a teacher of the Men's Bible Class and had served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claris Watt Payne of the home; sons, Thomas Payne of the home, Carl Payne and his wife, Mary of Columbia, SC and Bill Payne and his wife, Lynn of Anderson, SC; daughter, Betty Richey and her husband, Sam of Anderson, SC; brother, Roy Payne of Anderson, SC and sister, Tommie Ruth Fowler of Atlanta, GA. Nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren also survive.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Jack and Ludie Payne and sisters, Ruby Grey and Frances Payne.The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson with Military Honors by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard and Masonic Rites.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the residence.Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 504 S.
