Anderson, SC John L. Richey, age 76, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 12, 2015. Born in Prince William County, VA on January 11, 1939, John was a son of the late Llyda Clark Richey and the late Lillian Agnes Randall Mitchell. He proudly served his country by retiring from the United States Navy. He was a former insurance agent and had worked with the Anderson Independent Mail. He was a Mason, an avid fan of bluegrass music and enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo. He is survived by his wife, Carol Joanne Free; a son, John W. Richey; daughters, Estelle Kay Chapman, Ruth Lambert, Lillian Richey, Carol Whitby and Cindy Smith; brothers, Allen J., David and Robert Richey; sister, Peggy Davis; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Jackson Richey and a sister, Frances King. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 9:30am until 10:30 am with the funeral service beginning in the Chapel at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.
