John Louis Smith, age 84, of Starr, SC, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at Rainey Hospice House. Born March 16, 1938, in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Carl David Smith and Willie Mae Erwin Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, David Edward Smith; sister, Mary Smith Burdette; and nephew James Burdette, Jr. John was retired from the Anderson County Highway Department and was a member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church. His favorite place to be was outdoors and he loved gardening and spending time on his tractor. He was known as a great mechanic who could fix anything. He was loved and cared for by his three nieces, Jan Pitts (Leland), Joyce Lawless (Craig), and Joan Burdette. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, November 28, 2022, at 1:00 pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will speak with guests immediately following the service.
