John Richard Stein, 72, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at AnMed Health Medical Center. He was born December 30, 1947, in Cleveland, OH and was the son of the late William and Mary Charlotte May Stein. John was a graduate of St. Edwards Catholic High School and attended Cleveland State University and Clemson University. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the National Guard following his military service. John enjoyed a career at American Screw and Rivet Corp. and was an experienced craftsman building the first underground house in Anderson. He was a private pilot, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed making rosaries. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a former usher and a member of the Cenacle prayer group. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Estelita "Ester" Abella Stein; sons, Michael Stein and his wife, Crystal, and Edward Stein; grandchildren, Kolbe, Marija, Stephen, Theresa, Olivia, Claudia and Amelia; siblings, Nancy Ivey, Beth Cartlidge and William Stein, Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Teresita Desiderio and Antonia "Lina" Lopez. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Stein and sister, Susan Stein. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 2:00 pm with Father Philip. S. Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.
