Johnnie R. Metz, age 97, of Iva, SC, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at NHC Healthcare Anderson.

Born February 3, 1927, in Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Otis Latham and Jo Rita Robinson Latham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bronsil Leon Metz; children, Dennis Metz, Rita Stevens; and sisters, Leticia Vickery, Danyce Broom and Twyler Loftis.

Johnnie had worked as a textile worker at BASF and later enjoyed selling AVON. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Iva, SC since 1957. When she was able, she enjoyed attending her church regularly. She was one of the founders of Sunrise Seniors in Iva and enjoyed getting travel groups together. She loved to bake cakes and spending time with her family. She especially loved her grandchildren and taking them to special places like Disney World.

She is survived by her son, Bronson Metz (Brenda) of Iva, SC; four grandchildren, Kim Blackwell (Steve) of Iva, SC, Carmen Hamby (Tim) of Iva, SC, Dr. Frank Gillespie (Jennifer) of Douglasville, GA, Anthony Italiano (Jordan) of Alabama; also survived by eleven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:15 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Gray officiating. A private family burial will be held.
